Who we are

Our Scout Group is the 17th Stretford (1st Lostock) QUEST Scout Group. Mr. William B. Whightman started our Scout Group with just 6 boys in August 1927, 20 years after Baden-Powell started Scouting on Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour, Dorset in August 1907.

We currently offer scouting experiences and activities to over 100 different boys and girls in the Stretford area. We challenge young people and adults to stretch themselves, discover new talents and reach their potential

Our approach is informal, youth-led and sociable; Scouting is an enjoyable hobby and a social life with a purpose. Scouting helps young people and adults get to know new people, work well together and develop positive, meaningful friendships.

Scouting is a charity that has a positive and practical impact on:

  • Young people – providing opportunities to grow in confidence and develop life skills
  • Adult volunteers – positively impacting adults in their professional and personal lives, providing the opportunity to develop skills such as training, management, and communications
  • Society – providing practical benefits to local, national and international communities.

We currently have three Sections:-

  • Beavers – Girls and Boys Aged 6 – 8 (Wednesday Evenings)
  • Cubs – Girls and Boys Aged 8 – 10.5 (Thursday Evenings)
  • Scouts – Girls and Boys Aged 10.5 – 14 (Tuesday Evenings)

We also host a District Explorer Unit at our group – Girls and Boys Aged 14 – 18 (Wednesday Evenings)
